Arizona – Winds will begin ramping up across Tucson late this morning, creating dangerous conditions where a single spark could quickly turn into a fast-moving wildfire.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, a Red Flag Warning is in effect from 11 a.m. through 8 p.m. Sunday. Southwest winds between 18 and 25 mph, with gusts reaching 35 to 40 mph, will combine with very low humidity and dry vegetation to create critical fire weather conditions.

Across southern Arizona, including Tucson, Oro Valley, Marana, and areas along I-10 and I-19, fire spread could happen rapidly if ignition occurs. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and even small sparks from equipment, vehicles, or cigarettes could lead to dangerous situations.

Travelers should also be alert for gusty crosswinds, especially on open stretches of highway where sudden wind shifts can impact driving. Secure loose outdoor items and avoid parking on dry grass.

Fire officials urge residents to follow all burn bans and safety guidelines. Do not drag chains, properly extinguish campfires, and report any signs of smoke immediately.

Conditions will begin to improve after sunset as winds ease, but dry conditions will persist into early next week.

Fire danger remains elevated through Sunday evening, and additional advisories could follow if dry and windy conditions continue.
