Tucson, AZ – Triple-digit heat will rapidly intensify across southern Arizona by 11 a.m. Thursday, with temperatures climbing as high as 108°F and creating dangerous conditions through Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect from 11 a.m. Thursday until 8 p.m. Sunday for much of Pima and Pinal counties, including Tucson, Marana, Green Valley, and the Tohono O’odham Nation. High temperatures between 100 and 108 degrees are expected, with the most intense heat likely Friday and Saturday.
Surrounding areas including Sierra Vista, Benson, and Safford will also see dangerous heat, though slightly lower highs between 95 and 100 degrees. Despite the difference, prolonged exposure still poses a significant health risk, especially for those working outdoors or without access to cooling.
Urban areas like Tucson will see elevated heat stress during the afternoon and early evening hours, while desert locations such as Ajo and Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument could experience the most extreme conditions.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity to early morning or late evening, stay hydrated, and take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces. Never leave children or pets in vehicles.
The heat will persist through Sunday night, with additional alerts possible if temperatures remain elevated into early next week.
