Arizona’s desert air feels deceptively mild early, but the sun quickly intensifies, pushing Tucson into dangerous triple-digit heat by early afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through Sunday evening. Highs will reach 101°F today, with humidity near 16 percent and light winds offering little cooling. Heat builds rapidly after 11 a.m., peaking through late afternoon.

Across Tucson, Oro Valley, and along the I-10 and I-19 corridors, pavement temperatures will surge. Sidewalks and parked cars will heat quickly. Limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours and drink water frequently.

Sunday stays just as intense, with highs near 100°F under full sun. Even after sunset, temperatures remain elevated, slowing overnight cooling. This pattern increases heat stress risk, especially for those without reliable cooling.

Looking ahead, Monday dips slightly to 97°F before heat builds again. By Tuesday, March 24, highs rebound near 98°F, keeping this early-season heat wave firmly in place.

Meteorologists continue tracking a strong ridge across the Southwest, locking in dry, hot conditions. Fire risk also increases as vegetation dries out under persistent heat.

Drivers should prepare for glare and heat fatigue this afternoon. Keep extra water in your vehicle and check engine temperatures before longer trips.
