Flagstaff, Arizona – Storms could rattle northern Arizona by late Sunday morning, bringing gusty winds, smoky skies, and potential travel slowdowns along I-17 and I-40.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms will develop after 11 a.m. Sunday, followed by haze and patchy smoke from nearby wildfires. Afternoon highs will climb to 86°F, with southwest winds up to 15 mph and gusts reaching 23 mph. The risk of storms and smoke increases after 5 p.m., which may reduce visibility and create slick roadways.

Smoke and clouds will clear overnight, but another round of storms returns Monday. Showers are likely between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., followed by a stronger chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Monday’s high will hit 90°F, but with winds gusting up to 25 mph, driving could become hazardous in open areas.

Tuesday continues the monsoon pattern, with a 40 percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms and a high near 89°F. Storms are most likely between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., then tapering into a partly cloudy night with lows around 55°F.

The threat of summer storms lingers through Thursday. Expect 50–60% rain chances Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, with highs near 84–86°F. Thursday night will bring another round of storms before skies begin to clear by Friday.

Travelers should avoid high-speed driving in smoky or stormy conditions and secure loose outdoor items. Stay weather-aware through midweek as alerts remain possible.
