Flagstaff, AZ – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for parts of Navajo and Apache counties, including the Little Colorado River Valley and White Mountains, until 9 PM MDT Sunday, April 13.

According to the National Weather Service, gusty southwest winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. Combined with relative humidity levels as low as 5%, these conditions create an extreme risk for wildfires. The warning affects several communities, including Alpine, Eagar-Springerville, Holbrook, Pinetop-Lakeside, and Show Low, as well as parts of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest.

The hazardous weather conditions could cause fires to rapidly spread before firefighters have a chance to control them. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activities that might start fires, such as yard work, target shooting, and campfires. Local authorities advise checking current fire restrictions and following safety tips available at livingwithfire.org.

As this weather event unfolds, officials continue to monitor conditions and encourage preparedness.
