TUCSON, Ariz. – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to flare up across southern Arizona through Friday, bringing the potential for heavy rain, lightning, and sudden flooding across Tucson’s metro area. Drivers could face slick roads during the Thursday and Friday evening commutes, especially along I-10 and State Route 86.
According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, storm chances rise to 50% Thursday night and Friday afternoon, with the highest likelihood after 2 a.m. Friday. Temperatures will hold in the mid-90s, but humidity will stay elevated, increasing the risk of flash flooding in low-lying and desert wash areas.
Thursday storms could also bring gusty winds and frequent lightning, which may impact power lines and outdoor activities. Officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways, a common hazard during Arizona’s monsoon.
The unsettled pattern will break by Saturday, when skies clear and highs return to the upper 90s. Another brief storm chance may linger into Sunday, but drier and hotter conditions dominate early next week with highs climbing back above 100 degrees by Wednesday.
Warnings remain possible if thunderstorms intensify, and residents should monitor local advisories.
