Sedona, AZ – Scattered thunderstorms will linger across Arizona through early evening Sunday, bringing the threat of localized flooding and gusty winds, especially across higher terrain areas north and east of Phoenix.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, storm activity will mainly target elevated terrain in southwest and south-central Arizona, including areas near Prescott, Sedona, and Payson. While overall precipitation chances are low for the Valley, isolated downpours could still create ponding on roadways and brief hazardous driving conditions.
Localized thunderstorms may also bring gusty winds and lightning, prompting minor flooding concerns along washes and low-lying spots. In particular, travelers along I-17 near Prescott and I-40 east of Flagstaff should watch for sudden heavy rainfall.
Residents are urged to stay alert to changing conditions and avoid driving through flooded roads. Storms are expected to weaken into the evening, but isolated activity could persist in mountain zones before drying fully on Sunday.
More advisories could be issued if storms intensify this afternoon.
