TUCSON, Ariz. – Southern Arizona is set for a stretch of dangerous heat and scattered storms as Tucson braces for triple-digit highs lasting through the weekend and into Labor Day. Daytime temperatures will hover near or above 100 degrees, with the hottest point expected Sunday at 103°F.
According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, isolated showers and thunderstorms could develop as early as Thursday afternoon, with a higher chance of storms returning Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Monsoon activity may trigger brief heavy downpours, gusty winds, and lightning, especially over the metro area and surrounding mountains.
Friday looks to be the driest day of the stretch, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 100°F. However, storm chances climb again by Saturday, with a 20% chance of thunderstorms each afternoon through at least Wednesday. These storms may cause sudden flooding on washes and low-lying roads, especially in Pima County.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat, and use caution while driving if storms reduce visibility or cause water buildup on roads.
The storm pattern is expected to continue into midweek, with temperatures slowly cooling into the upper 90s by Wednesday.
