Phoenix, AZ — An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect for Phoenix and the surrounding areas, with dangerously high temperatures expected to reach 109°F through Sunday. The National Weather Service warns that the heat poses a serious risk, especially for travelers along the I-10 and I-17 highways. Residents are urged to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses by limiting outdoor activity during the peak heat of the day.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning is in place until 8 p.m. Sunday. Temperatures will rise sharply, starting Thursday with a high of 107°F, followed by 108°F on Friday and Saturday. Nighttime temperatures will offer little relief, dropping only to the upper 70s.

Heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke can develop rapidly in these conditions. Officials recommend staying indoors during the hottest hours, drinking plenty of water, and wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing. If outside, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. Those working outdoors should adjust their schedules to the early morning or late evening.

Residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors, particularly the elderly and those without air conditioning. Maricopa County provides cooling shelters, and residents can call 2-1-1 for heat-relief resources. As the temperatures continue to soar, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises caution when spending extended time outdoors.

By next week, the heat wave will begin to ease, with temperatures expected to drop slightly to 104°F by Tuesday. However, high temperatures remain a concern, and residents are encouraged to stay updated on any further advisories.
