Tucson, Arizona – Temperatures across southern Arizona could soar to a blistering 112°F by Monday afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to issue an Extreme Heat Watch for much of the region.

According to the NWS Tucson office, the watch goes into effect late Monday morning and remains in place through Monday evening. Affected areas include the Tucson Metro, Western Pima County, Tohono O’odham Nation, and parts of Pinal and Graham counties—impacting cities such as Safford, Ajo, Marana, Green Valley, and Oracle.

This level of heat significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those working or recreating outdoors. OSHA urges residents to limit strenuous activity to early morning or evening, wear loose-fitting clothing, and hydrate frequently. Employers are encouraged to provide shaded rest breaks and access to air conditioning when possible.

Road crews, outdoor laborers, and hikers should be especially cautious. Heat stroke symptoms—confusion, rapid pulse, and lack of sweating—require immediate medical attention.

The heat threat may expand if current models hold. Additional advisories are possible in the coming days.
