Phoenix, Ariz. – Triple-digit temperatures across Arizona are pushing dangerous limits this week, with highs reaching up to 118°F in some areas and no relief in sight until Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Friday for Maricopa, Pinal, and surrounding counties. Afternoon highs from 106°F to 118°F will put millions at major risk for heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially those outdoors or without access to cooling.

In Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Glendale, public cooling centers are open, and residents are urged to call 2-1-1 or visit Maricopa.gov/Heat for resources like transportation and hydration stations. In the Grand Canyon below 4,000 feet, locations like Phantom Ranch are expected to reach 113°F — prompting warnings to limit hiking and remain near water sources.

Tucson and surrounding areas including the Tohono O’odham Nation, Willcox, and the Upper Gila River Valley face heat up to 115°F starting Thursday morning, with risks compounding for outdoor workers, older adults, and children.

Officials recommend rescheduling outdoor activity, drinking extra fluids, and checking on vulnerable neighbors. OSHA advises frequent breaks in shade or A/C for those who must work outdoors.

Extreme heat warnings remain in effect through Friday evening statewide, and additional alerts may follow as conditions persist.
