Flagstaff, Arizona – Fire danger is rising across northern Arizona this weekend as strong winds and single-digit humidity levels prompt a Fire Weather Watch from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. MST Saturday and Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, dry air and gusty southwest winds—up to 45 mph—will elevate wildfire risk, especially in Coconino, Navajo, and Apache counties. The watch runs noon to 8 p.m. for Navajo Nation communities.
Saturday’s risk zone includes Alpine, Holbrook, Winslow, Show Low, and Tuba City, while Eager, Springerville, and Saint Johns are under alert Sunday. Winds will range from 15 to 25 mph, with localized gusts nearing 45 mph. Humidity levels could dip as low as 8%, fueling rapid fire spread if ignitions occur.
Residents are urged to obey all fire restrictions, avoid using power equipment that generates sparks, and keep vehicles off dry vegetation. Smoking and open flames should be avoided entirely through the weekend.
Conditions may worsen if winds intensify or humidity drops further. Additional fire weather warnings may follow, especially if fuels continue to dry out into early next week.
