Tucson, AZ – A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for southeastern Arizona, including Pinal, Pima, Santa Cruz, Cochise, Graham, and Greenlee counties, due to strong winds and low humidity expected on Saturday, March 1.
According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, the watch will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. MST. Forecasts predict southwest winds of 25 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 45 mph. Additionally, relative humidity levels are expected to drop between 8 and 12 percent, increasing the risk of rapid fire spread.
Fire Weather Zones 151, 152, and 154, which cover large portions of southeastern Arizona, will be most affected. Areas at risk include the western half of the Desert Grasslands, the Sky Islands of Southeast Arizona, and the Coronado National Forest.
Residents and fire agencies are advised to remain vigilant and prepare for potentially dangerous fire conditions. The National Weather Service urges people to avoid outdoor burning, secure loose objects, and follow local fire restrictions.
