Flagstaff, Arizona – Breezy southwest winds and low humidity could fuel dangerous fire weather across northern Arizona through Friday, with critical conditions expected in parts of Coconino, Navajo, and Apache counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, near-critical fire weather is possible Thursday, intensifying to critical levels by Friday, May 23. Areas from Flagstaff to Show Low and St. Johns are especially at risk, with winds gusting up to 30 mph and humidity dropping below 10%.

The fire danger map shows red flag-level conditions expanding eastward Friday, covering Flagstaff, Winslow, St. Johns, and surrounding communities. Lighter orange areas, such as Grand Canyon Village and Sedona, will also face elevated fire weather but with slightly less severity.

Officials urge residents to avoid any open burning, properly discard cigarette butts, and ensure vehicles are not parked on dry vegetation. Outdoor work involving sparks or flames should be postponed if possible.

This marks one of the most widespread critical fire weather days so far this season in northern Arizona. Additional advisories may follow if dry and windy conditions persist through the weekend.
