Phoenix, Arizona – Extreme heat is expected to grip much of southern Arizona and southeast California this weekend, with temperatures climbing as high as 114°F and heat-related illnesses becoming a growing concern.
According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, an Extreme Heat Watch remains in effect from Saturday morning through Monday evening for areas including Maricopa, Pinal, La Paz, and Yuma counties, as well as the Imperial Valley in California. Afternoon highs across the region will range from 104°F to 114°F, posing a Major Heat Risk.
In the Phoenix Metro—including Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, and Glendale—officials warn of dangerous conditions for outdoor workers, the elderly, and those without reliable air conditioning. Maricopa County residents are urged to call 2-1-1 for help locating cooling centers, water distribution, or transportation.
Drivers should be cautious of overheated engines and tire blowouts. Outdoor laborers are encouraged to shift work to early mornings, wear light clothing, and take frequent shade breaks. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises employers to provide hydration and rest cycles.
This heat wave comes early in the summer season and could rival similar June events in 2020 and 2022. Alerts may be upgraded to Excessive Heat Warnings if conditions worsen.
Warnings remain in effect through Monday night. Stay tuned for further updates.
