PHOENIX, Ariz. – Dangerous triple-digit heat will grip the Phoenix metro beginning Wednesday morning, with temperatures climbing as high as 114 degrees through Friday evening. Health officials warn of a major heat risk, with the most dangerous conditions expected during afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service, the Extreme Heat Warning takes effect at 10 a.m. Wednesday and lasts until 8 p.m. Friday, covering the Northwest Valley, Central Phoenix, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, the East Valley, and surrounding communities including Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, and Avondale.

Heat-related illnesses become far more likely during these conditions. Prolonged exposure can quickly lead to heat cramps, exhaustion, and potentially heat stroke without proper precautions. Maricopa County residents can dial 2-1-1 to locate free cooling centers offering water, transportation, and relief from the extreme heat.

Public safety officials recommend limiting outdoor activities to early morning or evening hours, wearing light clothing, and drinking plenty of water. Outdoor workers should take frequent breaks in shaded or cooled areas, as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration notes that heat stroke is a medical emergency.

The excessive heat is expected to continue until Friday night, with only slight chances for thunderstorms offering minimal relief. Additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
