Phoenix, AZ – A Flood Watch has been issued for much of southwest Arizona and southeast California, beginning just after midnight tonight and continuing through Friday evening. The National Weather Service in Phoenix warns that an incoming weather system will bring widespread rainfall, with some areas potentially receiving more than one inch of rain. This amount of rainfall, combined with a relatively dry landscape and flood-prone terrain, could lead to dangerous runoff and flooding.
Communities across Central La Paz County, the Parker and Palo Verde Valleys, Yuma and Southeast Yuma County, the Gila River Valley, and adjacent portions of California—including the Imperial Valley, Imperial County foothills, Chuckwalla Valley, and the Joshua Tree National Park region—should be prepared for possible flash flooding. Low-water crossings may quickly become hazardous or impassable.
The heaviest rain is expected Friday morning into the afternoon. Residents are encouraged to closely monitor updated forecasts and be prepared to act if Flood Warnings are issued. Those living in flood-prone areas should have a plan in place and avoid driving across flooded roadways.
