Dodge City, KS – Areas of dense fog are expected to develop late tonight in parts of Kansas, particularly east of Highway 183. Travelers are being warned of reduced visibility, with areas seeing one mile or less of visibility from after 3 a.m. until early Friday morning.
The National Weather Service issued the warning late Thursday evening, stating that the fog is likely to begin after midnight and is expected to reach its densest between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. Areas along and east of Highway 183, including cities like Great Bend, Pratt, and Hutchinson, are expected to experience the heaviest fog. Patchy fog could also impact surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service, drivers should be prepared for extra travel time and reduce speeds when driving through these conditions. They advise increasing following distance, using low beams, and staying up-to-date with weather forecasts as conditions may rapidly change.
The weather service highlighted that while fog is not unusual for the region, the low visibility could pose challenges to motorists, especially during the early morning hours when roads may be slick.
