Philadelphia, PA – A strong Arctic cold front will sweep through the Mid-Atlantic region around midday Thursday, ushering in a sharp drop in temperatures and gusty northwest winds across eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and northern Maryland, according to the US National Weather Service in Mount Holly.
Ahead of the front, morning highs will reach the upper 30s to mid-40s, but temperatures will plummet quickly during the afternoon as cold air pours in from the northwest. Wind gusts of 25–35 mph are expected across much of the area, making it feel much colder by sunset.
Forecasters note that a few brief snow squalls cannot be ruled out in the higher terrain of northeastern Pennsylvania and northwest New Jersey, where visibility could drop quickly during the afternoon.
The front’s passage marks the beginning of a colder, breezier stretch of weather through Friday, with wind chills expected to dip into the 20s and teens overnight.
Motorists and pedestrians should use caution during the afternoon as winds strengthen and temperatures fall sharply, possibly leading to slick spots in colder areas.
