Springfield, MO – The National Weather Service in Springfield is forecasting a much colder weekend for the Ozarks, with wind chills between -10°F and 5°F expected Saturday night through Sunday morning as a surge of Arctic air settles across southern Missouri.

Here’s the latest Weekend Outlook (as of Dec. 11, 3:25 PM):

  • Tonight: Mostly clear, low temperatures 29–41°F.
  • Friday: Highs 39–51°F, lows 23–29°F.
  • Saturday: Cold start with highs 32–52°F, then dropping rapidly Saturday night.
  • Sunday: Frigid morning lows 5–15°F with wind chills near -10°F; highs only 19–30°F.

The NWS cautions that these temperatures will create dangerous conditions for anyone outdoors for extended periods, especially early Sunday morning. Residents are encouraged to limit time outside, dress in multiple warm layers, and bring pets indoors overnight.

To prevent frostbite and hypothermia:

  • Cover exposed skin — frostbite can occur in under 30 minutes.
  • Wear gloves, hats, scarves, and waterproof boots.
  • Keep homes and pipes protected from freezing.
