Green Bay, WI – The National Weather Service in Green Bay is warning residents across northeast and central Wisconsin to brace for dangerously cold temperatures as an Arctic air mass surges into the region late Friday night through the weekend.

According to the NWS, daytime highs on Saturday will struggle to reach 0°F, while overnight wind chills could plunge to 20 to 30 degrees below zero across much of the area, including Green Bay, Wausau, Appleton, and Rhinelander.

The forecast shows:

  • Friday Night (Dec. 12): Wind chills drop to -20°F to -25°F across northern counties.
  • Saturday (Dec. 13): Wind chills near -30°F during the morning hours, remaining below zero all day.
  • Sunday Morning (Dec. 14): Wind chills between -15°F and -25°F before a slow recovery into the single digits by afternoon.

The NWS cautions that exposed skin can develop frostbite in as little as 10–20 minutes under these conditions. Pipes may also freeze or burst, especially in poorly insulated buildings.

Residents are urged to:

  • Dress in layers, including hats, gloves, and face coverings.
  • Limit time outdoors and check on elderly neighbors or those without adequate heating.
  • Bring pets inside and ensure animals have warm, dry shelter.
  • Allow faucets to drip slowly to prevent pipes from freezing.

Cold weather advisories or warnings are expected to be issued as the Arctic air settles in.
