Little Rock, AR – A surge of Arctic air poured into Arkansas early Sunday, delivering the coldest temperatures of the season so far across much of the state, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.

Despite full sunshine Sunday afternoon, temperatures struggled to recover, only reaching the upper 20s to lower 30s in most areas. Bitter wind chills made it feel even colder, with many locations experiencing “feels like” temperatures in the upper teens to mid-20s.

❄️ How Cold Did It Get?

Sunday morning lows were especially brutal across northern and central Arkansas:

Sub-15° lows reported:

  • Compton:
  • Horseshoe Bend: 10°
  • Harrison: 10°
  • Mountain Home: 10°
  • Flippin: 12°
  • Walnut Ridge: 12°

🌙 Tonight: Another Cold Night

Cold conditions continue tonight as high pressure settles over the region. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the lower teens to lower 20s, with light and variable winds limiting additional wind chill concerns but still posing a freeze risk.

Residents are urged to:

  • Protect exposed pipes
  • Bring pets indoors
  • Check on vulnerable neighbors

🌤️ Warm-Up Begins Monday

The good news: a gradual warming trend begins Monday. High temperatures are forecast to increase by 5 to 10 degrees each day through midweek as winds shift to a southerly direction.

By midweek, many areas will climb back into more seasonable December temperatures, offering relief from the Arctic blast.

Forecasters advise staying alert for refreezing overnight, which could lead to slick spots on roads and sidewalks, especially in shaded areas.
