Arctic Blast Arrives: -30°F Wind Chills and Bitter Winds to Grip Minnesota

TWIN CITIES, MN – The National Weather Service in the Twin Cities reports that light snow will move through southwest Minnesota this morning into the afternoon, with around 1 inch of accumulation expected.

A cold front Friday morning will bring flurries, gusty northwest winds, and a sharp drop in temperatures, leading to bitterly cold conditions lasting through the weekend.

By Friday night, wind chills will range from -15°F to -35°F, creating hazardous cold conditions across much of Minnesota.
The coldest period is expected Saturday morning, when readings could fall to -36°F in western and central parts of the state, including Alexandria and Redwood Falls.

  • Thursday: Light snow, highs 15–20°F, lows 3–13°F
  • Friday: Flurries, windy, highs 11–19°F, lows -15°F to -3°F
  • Saturday: Very cold and breezy, highs -8°F to 1°F, lows -23°F to -15°F
  • Sunday: Partly sunny and cold, highs 4–15°F
  • Monday: Slightly warmer, highs 23–28°F

Residents are urged to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit outdoor exposure due to frostbite risks in under 15 minutes during peak cold.
