WICHITA, Kan. — Forecast confidence is increasing that an Arctic air outbreak will impact Kansas from Friday through Sunday, bringing dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills, according to the National Weather Service in Wichita.
Forecasters say Arctic air will surge southward into the region late this week, with extreme cold and hazardous wind chills likely statewide. High temperatures are expected to drop sharply, with bitter conditions persisting through the weekend.
There is also potential for snow, particularly across southern Kansas, where chances for accumulating snowfall are higher than points farther north. Exact snowfall amounts and coverage remain uncertain.
The National Weather Service cautioned that snow totals and the duration of the extreme cold, which could extend into Monday, are still being refined as the forecast evolves.
Residents are urged to prepare for dangerous cold by limiting time outdoors, dressing in layers, and monitoring forecast updates as details become clearer later this week.
