Louisville, KY – Much of south-central Indiana and central to south-central Kentucky will face dangerous cold early Sunday as a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect from 1 a.m. EST (midnight CST) through 1 p.m. EST (noon CST), according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Louisville.
Forecasters expect wind chills to fall as low as 10 below zero across areas including Louisville, Lexington, Frankfort, Elizabethtown, Bardstown, Shelbyville, Georgetown, Danville, Richmond, Bowling Green, and communities stretching north into southern Indiana, such as Paoli, Salem, Scottsburg, Corydon, New Albany, and Jeffersonville.
A secondary advisory includes Adair, Allen, Barren, Clinton, Cumberland, Metcalfe, Monroe, and Russell counties, where wind chills will drop to around zero degrees, affecting cities such as Glasgow, Scottsville, Burkesville, Columbia, and Albany.
According to NWS meteorologists, these wind chills can cause frostbite and hypothermia if residents remain outdoors without adequate protection, especially during the coldest window just before sunrise Sunday.
Officials urge residents to dress in warm layers, cover hands and faces, and check on older neighbors or those living without reliable heating. Portable heaters should be used safely, and generators and grills must never be operated indoors due to carbon monoxide hazards.
More updates will be issued as Arctic air continues to push through the Ohio Valley.
