Arapahoe County, CO – Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a string of early-morning vehicle thefts that began around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday near East Smoky Hill Road and South Tower Road, officials confirmed.

According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, at least five vehicles were stolen within a two-mile radius. Deputies said several of the thefts happened while the cars were “puffing” — left running to warm up in cold weather.

Investigators believe four suspects were involved in the thefts. One 18-year-old suspect was arrested and booked into jail on charges of auto theft and eluding, while the remaining three suspects remain at large.

All five vehicles have since been recovered and processed for evidence, authorities said. Deputies are continuing to investigate whether the thefts are connected to any larger regional pattern.

The Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents not to leave vehicles unattended while running, even briefly, as thieves often target warming or unlocked cars during winter months.

Anyone with information about the remaining suspects is asked to contact the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.
