New Orleans, LA – A 26-year-old Arabi man faces upgraded charges of vehicular homicide after a fatal crash on I-610. The incident, which occurred on September 24, 2024, claimed the life of Eric Anthony Jr., a 23-year-old Motorist Assistance Patrol (MAP) operator for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD).
The crash took place near Canal Boulevard when Oscar G. Perez-Moran’s vehicle struck Anthony as he assisted a stranded motorist. Toxicology results showed illegal narcotics in Perez-Moran’s system, prompting the Louisiana State Police to upgrade the charges on Wednesday while he remained in custody.
According to investigators, Anthony had his vehicle’s emergency lights and warning cones in place before the crash. Perez-Moran’s Nissan Rogue veered off the road, hitting Anthony and his vehicle. Anthony later died from his injuries at a local hospital.
Louisiana’s “Move Over Law” requires drivers to shift lanes or slow down near emergency vehicles. State Troopers continue to remind drivers to follow these safety protocols to protect roadside workers.
