Blacksburg, VA – Strong winds continue across southwest Virginia and the North Carolina mountains this morning, with gusts up to 45 mph creating challenging conditions for drivers and outdoor workers.
According to the US National Weather Service Blacksburg VA, most of the region is seeing sustained winds of 20–30 mph, with higher gusts reported in Ashe, Alleghany, and Watauga counties in North Carolina, as well as Western Greenbrier County in West Virginia.
Wind Advisories remain in effect for the North Carolina counties until 8 a.m. Friday, while the advisory for Western Greenbrier extends until 5 p.m. this afternoon. Forecasters expect winds to gradually weaken later tonight, though breezy conditions could persist into early evening.
Officials caution that unsecured outdoor items may blow around and that high-profile vehicles could face difficulties on exposed roadways, particularly along mountain passes and ridge tops.
