Blacksburg, VA – Residents across Virginia should prepare for scattered showers and a chance of thunderstorms by mid-week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg. While dry weather is still expected through Monday, conditions are forecast to change as a low-pressure system moves up from the Carolinas.

According to the NWS, easterly flow will help push moisture into the region Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing isolated to scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two. The system is expected to have the greatest impact in eastern areas of Virginia, including communities stretching toward the Delmarva Peninsula.

The weather shift comes as high pressure continues to hold over the Appalachian Mountains early in the week. By mid-week, forecasters expect cooler air to filter into the region, making for a noticeable change in temperatures along with the wet weather.

The NWS notes that the image accompanying its forecast highlights the positioning of high- and low-pressure systems anticipated by Wednesday morning. Residents are advised to monitor updates for timing and intensity, especially if outdoor plans are scheduled for mid-week.
