CHARLESTON, WV – The National Weather Service in Charleston reports that a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday for portions of northern, northeast, and southeast West Virginia, including Upshur, Nicholas, Webster, Randolph, Pocahontas, and Fayette counties.
Forecasters say an additional 5 to 9 inches of snow is expected across the region, with wind gusts up to 45 mph creating blowing snow, reduced visibility, and slick road conditions.
The NWS cautions that travel will be very difficult, especially during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Mountain routes such as those near Elkins, Snowshoe, and Webster Springs may become treacherous or impassable as snow continues to accumulate overnight.
Gusty winds could also bring down tree branches and power lines, potentially causing scattered outages in higher elevations. Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel and carry emergency supplies, including blankets, flashlights, and food.
This early-season storm is delivering some of the heaviest snowfall of the fall to West Virginia’s mountain counties, signaling a strong shift toward winter weather across the Appalachian highlands.
