Morristown, TN – The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for much of East Tennessee and parts of southwest Virginia, in effect through 10 PM EDT Wednesday, October 29.

According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, sustained southeast winds between 20 and 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected across mountain counties, including Blount, Sevier, Johnson, Cocke, Greene, Carter, Monroe, and Unicoi.

In nearby Russell and Washington counties in Virginia, winds will range from 15 to 30 mph with gusts reaching 45 mph.

Forecasters warn the strong gusts could down tree limbs and power lines, leading to isolated outages throughout the region. High-profile vehicles—especially on mountain roads—may experience dangerous driving conditions.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and trash bins, as unsecured objects could be blown around.

“Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles,” the NWS cautioned in its advisory early Wednesday morning.

Conditions are expected to ease after 10 PM, but lingering breezes could continue overnight.
