CLEVELAND, Ohio – A widespread Frost Advisory now blankets much of the Great Lakes region, with temperatures expected to fall near or below freezing late Wednesday night into early Thursday. The chill will stretch from northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania through western and central New York, threatening sensitive plants and marking one of the coldest mornings of fall so far.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo, the advisory is in effect from midnight through 9 a.m. EDT Thursday. Clear skies and calm winds will allow temperatures to drop into the low to mid-30s, producing frost formation across inland counties away from the lake shores.

Communities including Cleveland, Youngstown, Erie, Meadville, Butler, Pittsburgh, Jamestown, Batavia, and Oswego are expected to see frost on lawns, rooftops, and vehicle windshields. The coldest pockets—particularly in rural valleys of eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and New York’s Southern Tier—could briefly touch the freezing mark before sunrise.

The NWS urges residents to cover or bring in tender vegetation, disconnect outdoor hoses, and ensure pets have warm shelter overnight. Drivers on I-90, I-79, and I-80 may encounter light frost or slick bridge surfaces during early commutes.

By Thursday afternoon, sunshine will return with temperatures recovering into the 50s and low 60s. Another frosty morning remains possible Friday before a gradual weekend warm-up brings milder, dry fall weather to the region.
