CHARLESTON, WV — A sharp chill and brisk winds have settled over West Virginia today following the passage of a strong cold front, making for a blustery and colder Thanksgiving across the region. The National Weather Service in Charleston says temperatures will hold in the upper 30s to lower 40s across lower elevations, with 20s in the mountains — but the wind will make it feel 10 to 15 degrees colder through the afternoon.
Wind gusts between 25 and 45 mph are expected, strongest across the higher ridges and open valleys. For those traveling or spending time outdoors, the combination of cold air and steady northwest winds will make conditions biting and uncomfortable. “It’s one of those days where the air stings your face,” forecasters said, urging residents to bundle up and secure loose decorations or trash bins that could blow away.
A few snow showers will continue to develop over the Allegheny Mountains this afternoon into tonight as winds shift west-northwest. While accumulations will stay light, slick spots may form on mountain roads, particularly on U.S. 219, Route 33, and I-68 near the Maryland border.
