Tazewell, VA – Heavy snow blanketed portions of southwest Virginia, West Virginia, and northwest North Carolina overnight, leaving behind as much as 8 inches of accumulation in several locations, according to the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center early Tuesday.
Reports show Tazewell and White Top, Virginia, both received 8 inches of snow, while Burkeville and Vanderpool measured around 7 inches. In neighboring West Virginia, Shady Spring and Tornado saw between 7.5 and 7.8 inches, while Boone, North Carolina, recorded 7 inches.
The NWS said this storm brought near-seasonal totals for many southern Mid-Atlantic areas by early December, particularly in the Virginia Piedmont and Tidewater regions. Drivers are urged to use caution Tuesday morning, as untreated roadways may remain slick or snow-covered during the morning commute.
Motorists should allow extra travel time and stay updated on local advisories as plow operations continue.
