Charleston, W.Va. – A stretch of crisp, fall-like weather will settle across West Virginia this week, with foggy mornings and cool afternoons creating challenges for commuters. Drivers in river valleys should plan for dense fog each morning through at least Thursday, with visibility dropping quickly before lifting mid-morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, below-normal temperatures will dominate, with highs holding in the 70s and lows dipping into the 40s and 50s overnight. Another cold front arriving Thursday night will reinforce the dry, cooler air mass, keeping conditions feeling more like late September than late August.

The most persistent concern remains early-morning fog, especially along the Kanawha River near Charleston and low-lying valleys in southern and central West Virginia. Motorists are urged to use headlights, slow down, and allow extra travel time until the fog burns off.

By Friday, skies remain mostly sunny with highs in the upper 70s, while overnight lows stay in the low 50s. No rain is expected this week, giving residents a break from summer storms but continuing a dry pattern that could stress lawns and late crops.

More fog advisories may be issued if visibility worsens in the mornings.
