Charleston, WV – A cold front sweeping through West Virginia Sunday night could trigger isolated showers and thunderstorms before clearing out early Monday morning, bringing drier air and noticeably cooler temperatures across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, scattered storms are possible until just after midnight, mainly in the mountain counties. Once the front clears, seasonably cool air will settle in, with overnight lows falling into the low to mid-50s in the mountains and the low 50s to near 60 across the lowlands. Patchy fog may develop in river valleys before sunrise Monday, especially in areas like Elkins, Marlinton, and Middlebourne.

Road visibility could briefly drop for early commuters, and residents are advised to use low beams and slow down in fog-prone zones. The front marks the beginning of a prolonged dry stretch across the state, with mild daytime highs and crisp mornings expected through the workweek.

Any lingering fog should burn off by mid-morning Monday. No additional watches or warnings are currently posted, but the National Weather Service continues to monitor for early-week changes.
