Boone, NC – The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has continued a Wind Advisory for parts of the North Carolina High Country and southeastern West Virginia, warning of gusts up to 50 mph through Friday afternoon.
According to the NWS, northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will continue overnight into early Friday across Ashe, Alleghany, and Watauga counties in North Carolina, while Western Greenbrier County, WV, remains under advisory from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
Forecasters caution that gusty winds may knock down small tree limbs, scatter unsecured outdoor items, and lead to isolated power outages, particularly along mountain ridges and open valleys.
Drivers—especially those operating high-profile vehicles—should use extra caution on mountain highways such as U.S. 421, N.C. 88, and Route 60, where crosswinds could make travel difficult.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve Friday evening as winds diminish and cooler, calmer air moves into the region.
