Fort Worth, Texas – Unseasonably warm weather will continue across North and Central Texas through the weekend, with record or near-record temperatures possible on Christmas Day, before a strong cold front brings a dramatic cooldown late Sunday into Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, high temperatures on Christmas Day are expected to reach the lower 80s across much of the region, including Dallas–Fort Worth, Waco, Sherman, Denison, Palestine, and Killeen. Forecast highs include 82 degrees at DFW, 83 in Waco, and upper 70s to low 80s elsewhere, placing several locations near or at daily record levels.
The National Weather Service notes a 50 percent chance of tying or breaking records at DFW and a 45 percent chance at Waco. South winds of 5 to 15 mph are expected, with patchy morning fog giving way to mostly sunny skies by afternoon.
Warm conditions are forecast to persist through Saturday, with highs remaining near 80 degrees, and Sunday afternoon temperatures still climbing into the 70s before a strong cold front arrives later in the day. Scattered showers may accompany the front.
Behind the front, temperatures are expected to drop as much as 50 degrees, with Monday morning lows near or below freezing and highs Monday struggling to reach the mid-40s, which is below average for late December.
Residents are encouraged to prepare for the rapid shift from record warmth to winterlike cold heading into next week and to stay updated as the cold front approaches.
