Indianapolis, IN – Most teens today know about TikTok, but not all of them know about Anne Frank — a teenage girl whose diary has become one of the most important stories in history. On what would have been her 96th birthday, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is honoring her life through The Power of Children exhibit.
Anne Frank wasn’t famous when she was alive. She was just a normal girl who liked to laugh, talk during class, and dream about being in movies. But during World War II, her life changed forever. Anne and her family were Jewish, and they were forced into hiding after the Nazis invaded the Netherlands. She spent over two years in a small secret room with her family, writing every day in her diary about what she saw, how she felt, and what she hoped for.
According to museum educators, Anne’s diary became one of the most powerful records of what it was like to live during the Holocaust — a time when millions of Jewish people were targeted, imprisoned, and killed. Her writing wasn’t just about fear. It was also about hope, imagination, and wanting to grow up in a better world.
“She reminds us that even ordinary kids can make a difference,” the museum posted today in recognition of her birthday. Through the exhibit, students and families learn how her voice still matters — especially in a world where discrimination and hate still exist.
Visitors can explore Anne’s story through photos, her recreated hiding place, and stories about her life before and during the war. It’s not just history — it’s a reminder of what can happen when we forget to stand up for each other.
