Ann Arbor, MI – Police are searching for an armed suspect after an early-morning shooting in a residential Ann Arbor neighborhood today, in which a family dog was killed and multiple rounds struck another home, according to officials.

According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, officers responded at approximately 4:05 a.m. to the 1800 block of Weldon after reports of gunfire. Preliminary details indicate that a homeowner confronted a male suspect who was allegedly attempting to break into a vehicle in the driveway. During the confrontation, the resident’s dog exited the home. Police say the suspect allegedly produced a firearm and shot the dog before fleeing on foot. The dog was pronounced deceased at the scene.

As the suspect ran from the area, he allegedly fired additional rounds, striking a nearby residence. No injuries to residents were reported, police said.

Investigators describe the suspect as an adult male dressed entirely in black with a black face covering. Officers conducted a large-scale search of the area, including a K9 track and drone support from the Northfield Township Police Department, but were unable to locate him.

Chief Andre Anderson, who met with the impacted resident, called the incident “an extremely dangerous act that put members of our community at risk.” He urged residents to call 911 immediately if they observe suspicious activity.
