San Francisco, CA – Amazon is reportedly preparing to eliminate as many as 30,000 corporate jobs beginning Tuesday, in what would be the e-commerce giant’s largest round of layoffs since 2022, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The reductions are expected to hit a range of departments — including Human Resources (PXT), operations, devices, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) — as CEO Andy Jassy continues efforts to cut costs and reduce bureaucracy following the company’s pandemic-era hiring surge.

According to Reuters, managers in affected units were trained Monday on how to notify employees, with formal email notifications set to begin Tuesday morning.

The cuts would account for roughly 10% of Amazon’s corporate workforce and come as the company increasingly relies on artificial intelligence to automate internal processes. Jassy has previously said that AI-driven efficiency gains would likely lead to further workforce reductions.

Industry analysts say the move reflects both AI-related productivity improvements and pressure to balance Amazon’s heavy investment in AI infrastructure with short-term profit goals.

Meanwhile, Amazon plans to hire 250,000 seasonal workers for the upcoming holiday period — consistent with recent years — even as it tightens corporate staffing.

Amazon shares rose 1.2% Monday to $226.97, ahead of the company’s third-quarter earnings report expected Thursday.
