Amarillo, TX – Drivers across the Texas Panhandle are being urged to use caution tonight as the National Weather Service in Amarillo warns of dense fog developing overnight into Monday morning, potentially cutting visibility to less than a quarter mile.
According to the NWS, fog is expected to form as early as 2 a.m. CDT, becoming more widespread between 3 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday. The highest chances of dense fog (30–60%) are expected in the central and western Panhandle, including areas near Dumas, Borger, and Amarillo, where conditions may create hazardous travel during the early commute.
Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time, reduce speed, and use low beam headlights or fog lights when driving through fog. The agency also cautioned that visibility may fluctuate rapidly, making driving especially difficult on rural and open highways.
No official advisory has been issued as of Sunday evening, but forecasters say another foggy morning is likely for much of the region. Drivers are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service overnight for any changes in conditions.
