Amarillo, Texas – A new summer heat wave will grip the Texas Panhandle Friday, July 25th, with Amarillo temperatures soaring into the mid-90s and little relief in sight through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, Friday will bring abundant sunshine and a high near 92°F, with north winds shifting south by the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday heat up even further, pushing toward 95°F, as calm winds and clear skies lock in higher-than-average July warmth.

No storms are forecast Friday or through the weekend, but the dry, breezy conditions raise concern for elevated fire danger, particularly along highways like I-40 and US 87. Residents should avoid outdoor burning and limit strenuous activity during peak heat hours between 2 and 6 p.m. Hydration and shade breaks are critical for outdoor workers and vulnerable groups.

Friday night stays mild, dipping only to 67°F, with south winds under 10 mph. Saturday and Sunday repeat the heat trend, staying sunny with lows in the low 70s overnight.

Looking ahead, next week continues the summer heat streak. Highs Monday through Wednesday will remain in the 93–95°F range, with no meaningful rain chances through at least Wednesday night. Drivers and energy users should plan for increased AC demand and possible brief power strain during afternoon peaks.

⚠️ Heat safety remains essential. Keep pets indoors, check on older neighbors, and avoid parking in the sun during the hottest hours.
