Amarillo, Texas – A powerful cold front will sweep through the Texas Panhandle on Saturday, bringing gusty northerly winds up to 45 mph and sharply lower temperatures that could feel 10 degrees colder than what’s recorded.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, winds will peak between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, with sustained speeds of 20–30 mph and isolated gusts exceeding 45 mph, especially across cities like Borger, Pampa, and Guymon. Areas from Stratford to Canadian have up to a 60% chance of experiencing those higher gusts. Drivers should be alert for sudden crosswinds and blowing debris on roads like US-287 and I-40.

Wind chills will dip into the 30s across much of the region Saturday afternoon, even as air temperatures hover in the 40s. Amarillo is expected to reach 46°F but may feel closer to 38°F when wind is factored in. Loose outdoor items should be secured ahead of the front, and high-profile vehicles should use caution on open roads during peak gust periods.

More advisories could follow if the front accelerates or wind speeds exceed current expectations.
