Amarillo, Texas – A cold front pushing into the Texas Panhandle will bring cooler air and increasing chances for rain through the weekend, with temperatures settling into the 70s and low 80s. The National Weather Service said there is even a small chance readings could dip lower, especially overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, rain chances begin Friday evening at about 30% and climb to 50% by Saturday night. Cloud cover will keep highs below normal, ranging between 70 and 85 degrees, with Saturday expected to feel the coolest. By Sunday, rain and storm chances hold at 40%, mainly during the evening and overnight hours.

The cooler air could provide relief after a string of warmer late-summer days, but residents should prepare for changing travel conditions, especially on rural roads where heavy downpours may reduce visibility. Outdoor plans across Amarillo, Borger, and Canyon could be interrupted by scattered showers, particularly Saturday night.

Officials recommend keeping rain gear handy and monitoring updates throughout the weekend, as additional advisories could be issued if storms intensify.
