Amarillo, TX Weather Update: Showers and Thunderstorms Possible Tonight

Amarillo, TX – Residents across the Texas Panhandle are in for a noticeably cooler day today as widespread cloud cover settles in behind a recent cold front. According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, high temperatures will range from the upper 50s to lower 60s—about 10°F to 20°F below seasonal averages.

Showers and isolated thunderstorms are possible throughout the day, with the best chance for rain arriving this evening into early Wednesday. Most locations are expected to receive less than a quarter inch of rainfall. Lightning will be the primary hazard, though storms are forecast to remain brief and isolated.

Forecast highs include 64°F in Amarillo, 59°F in Dalhart, and 62°F in Borger, with Palo Duro Canyon expected to reach around 69°F. Average highs for early October typically sit in the mid-to-upper 70s.

The National Weather Service advises residents to prepare for cooler, damp conditions through tonight, with clearing skies and gradual warming expected by midweek.
