Amarillo, TX – The morning sky over the Texas Panhandle carries a sense of tension — calm for now, but with building instability that could spark scattered thunderstorms later Friday. Forecasters warn some of these storms could bring gusty winds and small hail, especially in central and eastern counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a developing disturbance will trigger showers and storms through the afternoon and early evening. A few cells could briefly turn strong, producing localized downpours and wind gusts up to 40 mph. While the tornado threat remains low, residents should stay weather-aware, particularly east of U.S. Highway 87 and along I-40.

Friday’s high will reach around 73°F before storms taper overnight. Saturday brings a few lingering clouds early, then mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper 60s to near 70°F. By Sunday, the region enjoys dry, breezy, and bright conditions — ideal for outdoor plans or late-season yardwork before next week’s Halloween prep begins.

Across the wider Plains, this system marks one of fall’s last thunderstorm bursts before the atmosphere settles into cooler, drier patterns. While winter vibes are creeping into the Midwest with frost and freezes, the Texas Panhandle stays mild, at least for now.

Looking ahead, highs remain in the mid-70s through Monday and Tuesday under clear skies, offering a calm stretch into the start of November. Trick-or-treaters next Friday may even enjoy a crisp but comfortable evening under dry skies — a rare treat for fall in the Panhandle.
