Amarillo, TX — Residents in the Texas Panhandle can expect a noticeable cool-down today following a weak cold front that moved through the area. Temperatures will reach highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, with winds shifting to come out of the south by late afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, wind chill values early in the day will dip as low as the upper 20s, so layering up is recommended for those heading out this morning. Winds will range from 5 to 15 mph, becoming slightly breezier overnight.
The cooler trend will give way to a sunny and slightly warmer weekend. Friday brings highs of 56°F with calm conditions, while Saturday will see temperatures nearing 60°F. Sunday is expected to be the warmest day of the week, reaching 64°F, though gusty southwest winds of up to 20 mph could impact outdoor plans.
For drivers along I-40 and local roadways, the clear weather conditions should offer excellent visibility and safer travel through the weekend. However, temperatures will dip sharply at night, dropping into the low 30s tonight and near freezing again by Saturday.
Looking ahead, cooler conditions return next week, with highs in the low 50s and a chance for light winds. Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts for updates.
Be sure to dress for chilly mornings and enjoy the clear skies heading into the weekend.
