AMARILLO, Texas – Streetlights glow through a pale, ghostly haze early this Sunday morning as dense fog blankets the Texas Panhandle. Visibility has dropped to near zero in spots, leaving headlights cutting through a mist that clings to fields, fences, and open stretches of I-40.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Sunday for Potter, Randall, and surrounding counties. Drivers should slow down, use low beams, and allow extra travel time. The fog will lift by late morning as a light east wind turns southerly, allowing sunshine to break through and temperatures to climb toward 66°F.

Monday marks the start of a brighter, warmer stretch. Highs soar into the mid-70s under mostly sunny skies, and Tuesday stays mild near 68°F before cooler air edges in midweek. Gusty northwest winds on Wednesday will drop daytime highs back into the upper 50s, followed by crisp nights dipping into the low 30s — the season’s first frost risk for rural areas along Highway 287 and west toward Vega.

Trick-or-treat conditions look favorable across Amarillo and Canyon, with dry air, calm breezes, and temperatures near 60°F as dusk falls Friday.

Residents are encouraged to use this week’s calm stretch for pre-winter chores — clearing gutters, securing patio furniture, and checking outdoor pipes ahead of chillier November air on the horizon.
