Amarillo, Texas – Overnight showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to taper off across the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles by mid-morning Wednesday, bringing a quick end to unsettled weather before sunny, warmer conditions settle in for the remainder of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, most of the activity will diminish by sunrise Wednesday, with skies gradually clearing. North winds may gust up to 25 mph during the morning, making for breezy conditions on area roads. Drivers may encounter wet pavement early, particularly along I-40 through Amarillo and east toward Shamrock.

By Thursday, a stretch of sunny weather begins, with afternoon highs climbing into the low 80s. The warming trend continues through the weekend, peaking near 87 degrees Saturday in Amarillo and across much of the Panhandle. Nights will stay seasonably cool, dipping into the 50s. A slight chance of showers could return Sunday for the southeastern Panhandles, but confidence in rain remains low.

Residents are advised to secure lightweight outdoor items ahead of Wednesday’s gusty winds and use caution on slick morning commutes.

Additional weather updates will be issued if Sunday’s rain chances grow more likely.
